Is using the Identification Kit worth it (Merchant wise)
So there I was cappin' skills in Cantha when I remember reading a post some time ago about how you can increase the amount of money you make from drops if you ID them all. I did not pay much attention to it at the time; however, since I was getting lots of junk anyway I desided to give it a try.
I would track each drop I got, the color, and the amount in merchant value before and after I ID them. I did not track items that already have a value like (Soul Stones), or any Green weapon (not that I ever get any).
All tests were done in Normal mode, going to the boss to be killed for capping the skill. There are only 90 drops because I did a HM run to increase my norrn rank and got 4 golds in less than 10 minutes. So I didnt think they should go on the chart.
In any case here are the results:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:...er/IsIDworthit
Summary:
By using a superior Identification Kit you increase your Net income by 1,327 gold (15g per drop). Meaning that you actually make up the cost of the ID kit and get an additional 1,327 gold.
So I would suggest you ID everything. You will not make money on every ID, but over the lkong run you will definitly pay for ID kit and more.

I generally would ID anything Maguuma+ on in Tyria, Kaineng+ on in Cantha, and Vabbi+ on in Elona.
Of course, if the whites are considerably far from max dmg, it's not always worth it.
Good find though, I may try that out, I got a few spare Sup ID's in storage thanks to quest trophy collectors.

An average increase of 14g per item (1272/90). Now one wonders if this is really worth all the clicking.

Well, if you know your going to get paid back for the id kit and your out in the explorable anyway, an extra click before selling really is not that much of a berdan. It is 14g you did not have before and you are missing out on if you dont do it.
The actual count is 89 drops and the sub total is wrong it is really around 1372 (i am updating the table) so that is 15g per click of additional merchant cash on average.

I have found the same thing and started id'ing everything about a year ago. You come out way ahead esp. if you can buy discount id kits from a private area merchant.

Thanks for the info. I usually ID everything. I don't get my ID kits from the merchants, though.

I've been ID'in everything ~40g and up since I heard of this, and you do come out way ahead. Just a note, Green weapons, runes, insignia, and weapon mods can all increase in merchant value as well. Their default value of 25g will increase after identification to a whopping 35g or so. 5g profit! I can post screens if you wish.

Looks like the average point in which you will make money from the ID is a Before Value of 43g. There is alot of data statistics you could do with this information.
Here is the download link for the data:
http://rapidshare.com/files/96283685...golds.xls.html
not sure why there says there is 88 drops counted but 89 drops tested. Some math error in there somewhere, I was not able to find it.

With regular ID kits from a merchant a 4 gold gain is break even. Most items surpass this by far. If they are from the regions mentioned in the quote from my experience. Earlier than that usually doesn't. I think the ID cost for Superior ID kits is 5g each.

Yeah, whoever has money problems should seriously do this. Some of my weapons go from 50 gold to 90 gold by IDing them.

is there any difference between superior and normal id kits? Or is it just the number of IDs per storage space?

you should use normal ID kits to save another 100 gold, it all adds up over time.
but the sup ID kit has 100 uses for 500 gold
a normal ID kit has 25 uses for 100 gold
most of the time if you are in HM or later end areas in the game 1 drop will make up for your normal ID kit cost

An ID kit is 100g.
A sup ID is 500g - it has 4x the uses yet costs 100g more than four normal ID kits.
BUT...generally most places where you would be IDing lots of things would be in higher end areas, where the three extra inventory slots you get by using a sup can hold three drops which, even if white, should have a merch value that makes up for the extra 100g invested.

Just keep your Id kits in storage and they won't take room at all -> more profit.
